L'Oréal encourages scientists
of tomorrow in Canada
(October 5, 2004) -
LOréal awarded yesterday two Mentor Fellowships to
Kirsten Burgomaster and Glenys Webster under the LOréal-UNESCO
program For Women in Science. These fellowships underscore
the exceptional work of two young Canadian women scientists.
Ms. Kirsten Burgomaster, age 24,
is registered in a doctoral program in human biodynamics at McMaster
University in Hamilton, Ontario. Her work concerns human physiology
and muscular metabolism following short intensive training. Glenys
Webster, 31 years of age, holds a Masters degree in environmental
toxicology from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. Her
work centers on presence of PEs in Canadas fish populations
and their harmful effects on human populations.
Since 1998, 91 women from 45 countries
have been recognized for their contribution to scientific progress
and influence.
